Intro:

Based on a book by Andrew Neiderman, the film centers on a young lawyer who joins a New York firm only to discover that his boss has an increasingly bizarre personality.

Ban đầu các nhà sản xuất muốn mời Joel Schumacher chỉ đạo diễn xuất bộ phim, còn Brad Pitt đóng vai Kevin Lomax. Khi Brad Pitt từ chối, họ liên hệ với John Cusack và Edward Norton, nhưng đều không thành công.

Để chuẩn bị cho vai Mary Ann, nữ diễn viên Charlize Theron, đã tới gặp một chuyên gia tâm thần mỗi giờ một ngày trong suốt 3 tháng để tìm hiểu về bệnh tâm thần phân liệt.

Trong phim có cảnh Kevin và John xem một trận đấu quyền Anh ở khu vực Madison Square Garden thuộc New York. Đó không phải trận đấu do đoàn làm phim dàn dựng mà là trận chung kết giải quyền Anh hạng nặng của Liên đoàn quyền Anh quốc tế. Hai võ sĩ trong trận đấu là Roy Jones, đương kim vô địch, và Bryan Brannon. Khi biết trận đấu sẽ diễn ra vào ngày 4/10/1996, đoàn làm phim quyết định thực hiện cảnh quay ngay tại võ đài.
